FWPA members and existing guest account holders should NOT submit this form you'll be presented the option to pay for your membership renewal via credit card or check. Your membership renewal is not The user id and password you enter now will be used to establish your account in a PENDING status. You will not be able to use these credentials we receive and process your application and payment, typically within three (3) business days after receipt. We will send you an email confirming contact you should we have questions about your application.

As described in detail on our criteria page, FWPA has 8 types of memberships: Voting, Associate, Freelance, Associate, Student, Law Firm, Patron. and Emeritus.

Renewal Applications

CLE Tracking Form

This online application process will ask you to verify your qualifications for membership based on the applicable criteria below (e.g. degree, paralegal certificate, certification, resume).

Further, those renewing to become a Voting or Freelance member must itemize their CLE from their certificates totaling 6 hours of CLE credit (1 must be for ethics). The one (1) hour legal ethics CLE requirement cannot be counted as a self-study hour and must meet the criteria below for accepted CLE. Please have your CLE certificate information ready PRIOR to starting this application in order to fill out and submit the FWPA CLE Tracking Form.

APPLICATION FEE:

FWPA charges a one-time $10 application fee for all new Associate, Freelance, Sustaining and Voting applicants. This fee does not apply towards future renewals, unless your membership lapses and you need to reapply.

PAYMENT:

Online credit card payment or check will be accepted. See invoice in your Profile for payment method and invoice for mailing address for checks.

Associate - $55.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: December 1st No automatically recurring payments Associate Qualifications: 1. Any person interested in the work of the association, whether or not the person is a paralegal or legal assistant.
OR
2. Any person employed as a paralegal or legal assistant who has not yet met the requirements of those PARALEGALS or LEGAL ASSISTANTS who are qualified through education, training, or work experience, employed by a lawyer, government, or other entity, whose substantive legal work, requiring sufficient knowledge of legal concepts, is performed under attorney supervision.
OR
3. Any person working as a temporary or freelance paralegal or legal assistant, either as an independent contractor or through a contracting paralegal company, who works an average of less than 35 hours per week.

Emeritus - $35.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: December 1st No automatically recurring payments Emeritus Qualifications: Those PARALEGALS or LEGAL ASSISTANTS who have been a Voting Member for a minimum of three (3) consecutive years, and is now retired from the paralegal profession. An Emeritus Member in good standing may fully participate in the affairs of the Association, but shall not have the right to vote, hold office or serve as a Director or Chair of a Committee.

Freelance - $60.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: December 1st No automatically recurring payments Freelance Qualifications: Those PARALEGALS or LEGAL ASSISTANTS who are qualified through education, training, or work experience, employed by a lawyer, government, or other entity, whose substantive legal work, requiring sufficient knowledge of legal concepts, is performed under attorney supervision AND WHO:
1. are currently employed as a full time Paralegal,
2. present valid proof of completion of paralegal education.
OR
3. have been employed full time for a minimum of 12 months, AND who work either as an independent contractor or through a company contracting paralegal services to the legal community and who works an average of 35 hours or more.

I certify that I am a freelance paralegal who has performed specifically delegated substantive legal work under the direct supervision of an attorney during the past six (6) months.

Law Firm - $115.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: December 1st No automatically recurring payments Law Firms Qualifications: A Law Firm member is determined as a business engaged in the practice of law. A Law Firm member in good standing will be entitled to certain preferred speaking and advertising privileges.

Patron - $115.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: December 1st No automatically recurring payments Patron Qualifications: A Patron member is a person or business entity interested in the Association's purpose. A Patron member in good standing will be entitled to certain preferred sponsorship and advertising privileges.

Student - $35.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: December 1st No automatically recurring payments Student Qualifications: Those persons who are currently enrolled in a paralegal training program.
If applying as a Student member, I hereby apply for student membership with FWPA. I hereby certify that I am currently enrolled in an accredited Texas paralegal program leading to a degree or certificate of completion. I hereby give my consent for a representative of FWPA to contact the administrator of this program for verification or clarification of my qualifications for membership, and I understand that if any information submitted in this application is false, it will be grounds for denial of my application.

Sustaining - $55.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: December 1st No automatically recurring payments Sustaining Qualifications: Those PARALEGALS or LEGAL ASSISTANTS who are qualified through education, training, or work experience, employed by a lawyer, government, or other entity, whose substantive legal work, requiring sufficient knowledge of legal concepts, is performed under attorney supervision AND WHO:
1. is not currently employed as a paralegal.

Voting - $60.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year, on: December 1st No automatically recurring payments Voting Member Qualifications: Those PARALEGALS or LEGAL ASSISTANTS who are qualified through education, training, or work experience, employed by a lawyer, government, or other entity, whose substantive legal work, requiring sufficient knowledge of legal concepts, is performed under attorney supervision AND WHO:
1.are currently employed as a full time Paralegal,
2.present valid proof of completion of paralegal education.
OR
3.have been employed full time for a minimum of 12 months.

If applying as a Voting member, I certify that I work under the direct supervision of a Texas licensed attorney and perform specifically delegated substantive legal work for at least eighty percent of the time and that a licensed attorney is responsible for my (Applicant's) work product.

If applying as a Voting member, I certify that I work under the direct supervision of a Texas licensed attorney and perform specifically delegated substantive legal work for at least eighty percent of the time and that a licensed attorney is responsible for my (Applicant's) work product; OR I am a freelance paralegal who has performed specifically delegated substantive legal work under the direct supervision of an attorney during the past six (6) months.

If applying as a Student member, I hereby apply for student membership with FWPA. I hereby certify that I am currently enrolled in an accredited Texas paralegal program leading to a degree or certificate of completion. I hereby give my consent for a representative of FWPA to contact the administrator of this program for verification or clarification of my qualifications for membership, and I understand that if any information submitted in this application is false, it will be grounds for denial of my application.

Applicants agree to be bound by the FWPA Bylaws, and the statements on the application are true and correct. If a member violates FWPA's Bylaws and/or Code of Ethics, FWPA reserves the right to terminate that membership immediately with all membership dues forfeited.
